Iron IV Infusion
Performed by GPs
Iron infusions are a common and safe treatment for those who are iron deficient. It’s usually the treatment of choice for those who can’t absorb or tolerate oral iron supplements. This is our most popular treatment in the treatment room.
Iron Infusion Process
Patients require 2-3 appointments to receive an iron infusion at our clinic.
Appointment 1
The suitability assessment.
This appointment must be with one of our doctors. They will review your blood test results and discuss your situation to see if an iron infusion is right for you and go over the treatment’s risks and benefits. Please allow 30 minutes for this appointment.
Appointment 2
Iron Infusion Administration
Iron will be administered via an IV drip. Please ensure you’re well hydrated on the day of your infusion and allow 30 minutes for the appointment.
Appointment 3
Follow-up Iron Check
Your doctor will schedule a follow-up blood test to ensure your iron levels are within healthy ranges after the infusion.
Venesection
Venesection, commonly known as phlebotomy, is a medical procedure that involves the puncturing of a vein to draw blood for testing or treatment purposes. This procedure is often used to diagnose various health conditions through laboratory analysis of the blood.
Additionally, venesection is used therapeutically to manage certain medical conditions, such as hemochromatosis or polycythemia vera, where the removal of excess blood can help regulate iron levels and blood viscosity.
It is usually quick, minimally invasive, and can be done in our clinic environment, making it a convenient option for those in need of regular monitoring or treatment.
Antibiotic IV Therapy
IV fluid therapy is a way of delivering fluids directly into your bloodstream. This treatment is used to correct or prevent dehydration due to various conditions or situations. IV infusion works by delivering fluids directly into the bloodstream, ensuring quick absorption and effectiveness.
When is IV Antibiotic Therapy Used?
IV antibiotic therapy may be used in:
- Severe infections that haven’t responded to oral antibiotics
- Infections that require a high concentration of antibiotics in the blood
- Certain types of pneumonia, skin infections or bone infections
- Post-operative infection prevention in some cases

An IV line, usually in your arm or hand, will be inserted.
Administration
The IV line will administer the correct type and amount of fluid. This takes 30 minutes to several hours, depending on your needs.
Monitoring
Your vital signs and hydration status will be monitored during treatment.
