GPs have to go through 10 to 15 years of formal education and training before practising independently as a GP.
The GP is usually the first person you want to see when you have a health issue. They will judge whether you need to see another health professional and refer you if needed.
If you see a specialist without being referred by a GP, Medicare will not grant you your rebate.

Appointment Types
Standard appointment
15 minutes duration and suitable for discussing 1 or 2 issues.
Long appointment
This appointment is 30 minutes in duration and would be suitable for new patients, 6-week postnatal checks, 6-week baby checks, and mental health consultations and procedures.
Prolonged appointment
Should be booked if you have multiple or complex issues. Please let reception know if a longer appointment is required upon booking.
Telehealth appointments
You can only book a telehealth appointment if you have had a face-to-face appointment at the practice in the past 12 months (or no Medicare rebate will apply). These are only suitable for shorter and more routine issues. Patients can book their preferred appointment time through our online booking system.
Emergencies will always be given priority.
